Depends on how you define security. The skype client on your machine has options that allow the remote skype server to alter your mixer settings so that raises the question in my mind - what else might it be capable of adjusting? And could it change the adjustments permanently so that other programmes were affected?Sky Aisling wrote:Does Microsoft's Skype 4.3 compromise Puppy security in any way?
It is possible to untick the ability for skype to adjust mixer settings (in options, audio devices) - but how much control does the remote skype server have over your webcam too? I don't think anyone can really be sure whether or not security might be at risk from Skype. There is so much info available about NSA violating privacy and so much information about Microsoft working hand in hand with spy agencies that I suspect skype could easily be a vector for privacy breaches.
Do I have any evidence of insecurity? No. Do I use skype? Yes. Do I trust it? No.
