Re: What version of Puppylinux for non-PAE?

Glad you got it to work.

Remember you have the choice of a "frugal" installation rather than a full hard disk install and with puppy the frugal option is normally the best one. But you probably already know that :-)

Try the Retro build of Precise Puppy 5.4.3. It uses the older nvidia driver. See info at http://bkhome.org/blog2/?viewDetailed=00070 - (Make sure you grab the Retro build) and http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/precise-5.4.3-retro/precise-5.4.3-retro-README.htm ("Note, if you have nVidia graphics...

GetFlash wasn't in my old Lupu I've been using previously. I had noticed it in the new Precise Puppy 5.4.3 I recently installed but wasn't sure if it picked up new releases automatically but now that I know it does I'll try it next time. Thanks..

Not the official way but a quick hack (assuming Flash already installed) is just extracting libflashplayer.so from "http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/completion/?installer=Flash_Player_11.2_for_other_Linux_(.tar.gz)_32-bit" -- Yes that's a real URL inside the quotes (so strip them off) but ...

VLC 2.0.5 direct from ubuntu universe repository installs and runs directly with Puppy Package Manager on Precise 5.4.3. Make sure you get all the dependencies as well though! I ran through the install twice because I missed some first time. (There are lots and lots). Didn't even have to patch to ru...

Have just installed RetroPrecise Puppy 5.4.3 (that's the non PAE variant) on my old laptop (been running Lucid Puppy on it for the last couple of years). Seems to be working perfectly. See announcement at http://bkhome.org/blog2/?viewDetailed=00070 Be sure to grab the "Retro" build if you ...

Has any member[/b] of this thread-forum used PuppyPhone to "connect" to a "non-PC client" SIP device? (There are plenty on SIP devices that don't need PCs for calling) Yes. I am using it and can call real phones (no client needed) and to receive calls. Works ok except user calli...

Ok Just installed psip32 1.3 on Lucid Puppy 5.2-update1 (yes I'll get round to upgrading to latest 5.2.8 some time). Gave it my sipgate details and it seems to work with a couple of problems. 1) If I enter a proxy sipgate.co.uk as sipgate recommend then the login never completes and hangs for ever. ...

Re: great except for no sound

My only gripe is that resolving sound issues is a PITA, especially if you have the intel hd integrated sound.. Is this a known problem? I've booted Lucid 5.2 on a variety of laptops/notebooks including Eee PCs (mostly belonging to friends as a demo) and always had sound. I seem to recall some had t...

Been using Lupu 5.2 (with update 1) since it came out and have tested 5.26RC on multiseesion DVD - seems fine. Wondering whether to try a frugal upgrade of my 5.2 config. Can someone tell me what exactly a frugal upgrade of the personal save file does? Does it just change a version number or does it...

GRUB4DOS is just a variant of Grub designed to be chained from the Windows Bootloader. If you already have Windows then Grub Boot (and hence Puppy Boot) becomes an option from Windows standard startup (can even be the default boot). Far less chance of screwing up Windows boot with grub4dos and less ...

Ticking "Keep Window above other windows" in Gnome mplayer preferences should cause this setting to stick. It does for me but I notice rjbrewer says that doesn't seem to work for them. I've just again retested in both Lupu 5.2 with mplayer 0.9.2 and Lupu 5.2.6 RC with mplayer 1.0.3 and it ...
