If you haven't done so already, you should set up a Swap File or Swap Partition of 2 X RAM, or approx 400 MB.

@rayl I have previously owned a Dell C600 and I suggest that, if possible, you increase RAM. Windows 2000 and Puppy 5.2.5 ran really well with 384 MB of RAM and a Swap Partition of 768 MB. There is no reason why the Lin 'N' Win approach won't work but I think you'll find that with only 192 MB of RAM...

I would download an earlier version of Puppy and try booting it from the CD. It's possible that the drivers in Precise 5.7.1 do not agree with the old hardware. hi nic007, the reason I merged /etc into /tmp/etc was I noticed that, while my running /etc folder was 2.4 MB, the /tmp/etc folder created by the program was 3.5 MB. I was afraid that if I deleted /tmp/etc and copied in my running /etc folder to replace it, I would be losing 1.1 MB of data. As dodgy...

For Puppy 5.2 download the latest Firefox and Seamonkey .PET files from here: http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/puppylinux/pet_packages-lucid/ For other Puppies use the appropriate repository. UPDATE I've done another re-master (using the built-in tool at Menu > Setup ) and this time I copied all of /root into the re-master, as well as all of /etc (except for the file .XLOADED).
