Lucid Puppy 5.1.1 Release - This is the official release
Hi playdayz and 01micko,
These might be too late to tackle before lucid 511 is released but I think it is worth knowing them.
1. 'Choose Browser' sometimes picks up non-browser entries.
2. When one installs xfce package (thanks to 01micko), clicking the trash icon opens a trash folder alright but the contents are that of / !
3. I have never had automatic internet connection through Barry's SNS since lupu 505. So I always have to copy /usr/sbin/dhcpcd from lupu 505 for use in all recent lupus and this works like a charm.
As always, keep up the good work.
Cheers.

I'd guess X-chat didn't insult you for no reason, some channels will kick you if you try to join them as user root.playdayz wrote:.X-chat won't insult you if you run it as user spot
LOL
X-chat has some nice options in the settings as well like selecting different font styles and sizes, transparent background, etc, etc.
Is it more secure to start it in the terminal and run it as user spot? I'm no hacker so I couldn't tell you.

You don't need to run as spot, you can also change username in xchat settings (username is not same as nickname) so server doesn't recognize you as root (it takes your system username by default). I'll try to compile Xchat on lupu today and see how big it is.

downloaded ; mv`ed the existing attym Ayttm 0.6.3-1 and ayttm_streamer_wrapper to /usr/bin/ORIG-BackUp ; clicked on the 0.6.1 pet ; it installed ; rxvt # ayttm -v Ayttm 0.6.1-0 is shown ; crashes while trying to connect .. saying newer version available 0.6.3Aytmm 0.6.1
"running as bastard root makes you mess your whole **** life"
typical insults nowerdays and many times really suck but this is the first time I got this on puppy .
I was thinking about Grub2
Is it possible for it to work in Puppy?
GRUB2 can boot a USB in a computer that can't normally boot a USB drive.

Yes, you can use Grub2. Lots of info here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=45961chrismt wrote:I was thinking about Grub2

Spup Frugal HD and USB
Root forever!
Root forever!
OMG playdayz, xchat insulted me too!playdayz wrote: Well, xchat insulted me on its first screen.
But root users aren't to joke with, some of them can modify code!
So I grabed xchat 2.8.8 source and removed this little condition here from xchat-2.8.8/src/common/cfgfiles.c on line 760 that says:
Code: Select all
if (getuid () == 0)
fe_message (_("* Running IRC as root is stupid! You should\n"
" create a User Account and use that to login.\n"), FE_MSG_WARN|FE_MSG_WAIT);
Code: Select all
./configure --build=i486-pc-linux-gnu --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --disable-nls --disable-libtool-lock --disable-python --disable-perl --disable-plugin --disable-dbus
So yeah here's the striped pet for lupu:
xchat-2.8.8-i486-lupu.pet 246 KB, about 552 KB installed/uncompressed
No additional dependencies needed.

Lupu-511RC testing
Lupu-511 RC upgrading from Lupu-510
-----------------------------------------------------
All seems well . Sound and Internet work as expected.
Opera/Opera Mail are fine
All installed pets are also working.
I tried XFCE4 pet - it shows promise but I think ICEWM in Lupu-510 is hard to beat.
Cheers

Yeah I also noticed it misses menu icon, I can probably modify that, it's the default desktop file that came with it, I'll repack with new menu entry.

Hi all
Sound issues sorted on new box with the use of a old SB live sound card, have set my daughters machine on 511 (wireless sorted once I new what encryption was being used and remembering to save profile) with network wizard. Daughter been using 511 for 8 hours and she cant break it (10 years old, mainly on games, youtube and facebook). Now the wife is having a go (and belive me she can break anything LOL) It is looking very good indeed.
I am still using ayttm on MSN no problem
Cheers

I already stripped some of the dependencies ubuntu always wants to install, im sure there is further room to strip more out but i don't know about the others for what else is safe to remove but still keep the program working - If you already have lots of dependencies and libs already installed may be best build tunapie.pet with pdebthing on your PC that way you dependency check only against what you already have installed then Pdebthing will only download what is needed to get tunapie working on your PC. Probably wouldn't be able to share the finished .pet as not every one will have the same debs and libs installed as you do but it should cut down on the size. Check out Iguleder Pdebthing thread, i made a little GUI for pdebthing so it is easy to use.pemasu wrote:Testing now stu90`s tunapie.pet and audacious. Works fine. Still wonder the big size of the tunapie.pet 17.5 Mb. Are all the dependencies really needed ? When I tested pulseaudio and stream2ip I had to install only one dependency and total install was much less than 17.5 Mb. I had already installed already a lot of libs and dependencies so I am not best person to evaluate.

stu90: don't forget Pdebthing only detects built-in packages, not user-installed packages.
There's a good reason for this: packages that were made with it can be shared. I can change this in a Pdebthing update if you want ... maybe another option.

Thank you dejan555, Your polite xchat is now the one in the puppy-lucid repo of Puppy Package Manager. Please remember that the latest index to the puppy-lucid repo is always available in LupuNews and at
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... d-official Just download it and copy it into /root/.packages--it may be necessary to reboot or to remove any ending from the file.
Here is a version of Aytmm 0.6.1 that is built with Ubuntu binaries. Possibly it could run better than the one that is installed, if anyone could test.
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... -Lucid.pet
This might be more stable since it is built with the Ubuntu files. It also contains gnu-privacy stuff, which could be removed to make it smaller--I doubt that the default ayttm has it. I am pushing it because if it did work well it could be in an Instant Update without altering much of anything..

Bad news playdayz I am afraid
Have tried a SBlive soundcard and everything played OK, went back to luci-219 and no problems with the onboard sound. going to try luci-222 and then the latest woof built version that I did to see if I can find anything else.Stripe wrote: Just built a new box for somebody and I am trying it out, (card ASRock N68C-S UCC, amd x2 3000mhz dual core chip. nvidia C61[GeForce7025/nForce 630a] (rev a2) on board graphics/sound and 1gb ddr2 ram)
The graphics work perfectly (better than a graphics card) with the 173.14.25 driver, but gnome mplayer or Pmusic will not work properly with the sound, you can set the playlist at a reasonable volume but as soon as the next track starts the volume goes to max, have tried all the settings in alsamixer and no joy, installed vlc as the default sound/play/video player and no problems.
