USB Webcam Sound Recording
Hi Playdayz,
I also checked in an oldish Wary, 512, and it doesn't work there either.
Back to 3HD V3, as you suggested I opened Alsamixer. It opens with the built in Intel sound card active. F6 allows me to select the Webcam but it comes up with the message "This sound device does not have any playback controls." Hitting either F4 Capture or F5 All at that point takes me to this panel. Maximising the gain using this panel and leaving this panel open makes no difference, I still get flat-line recordings. Closing Alsamixer and reopening it shows that it has reverted to the Intel card.
Hope that this is some use in diagnosis.
I have PMed don570 and will wait and see what he has to say. Did your webcam work for recording?

I have no experience with USB mikes.
However I know that in the Windows and Mac world that
special drivers need to be installed to make them work
but in the Linux World the ALSA API has the drivers built-in.
I do know that Audacity connects to the sound chip in your
computer differently than any other applications
and this is why it is successful in recording when other apps
will record. Audacity has a preference option to
select the input source. If you can't get that to record your
usb audio, then you're probably out of luck.
I always fiddle with the retrovol settings but I have only
a standard line-in not usb audio.
By the way I will have a new version of bacon recorder
early next week.

I'm trying to compile a sensor chip driver for my Asrock 890fx Deluxe4 AMD motherboard and I got kernel sources downloaded but now it's telling me I need the linux-headers-2.6.37.6, where do I get this animal? Heres the output in terminal when I try to compile the driver:

USB Webcam Sound Recording
(This is my second go at submitting this reply, the Forum seems to have eaten the first)
Thanks Don,
Audacity records sound perfectly from my USB webcam!
What is it about Skype and Audacity that the other Puppy apps lack? It is clear that Puppy infrastructure is there, or neither Audacity nor Skype would work, as they do. It can't be a missing library as with both Skype and Audactity installed Bacon still produces a flat-line sound file. Webcam sound support in Linux is no longer new, so it is a bit of a pity that the standard apps are still lacking in this regard.
I would suspect that users and computer manufacturers are moving to USB as the standard, if the majority hasn't already done so.

still there. From boot used only the picture game in the fun menu. When selecting a new picture to load x crashed then the usual xorgwizard xwin failed to get it to the desktop. Reboot and repeat and it didnt crash. Only 3HD of the current puppies i use (racy saluki 2HD pussy) does this random crashing. Not frequently enough to be a show stopper. Not at the same apps each time either. Could be openbox or kernel related? Please try to note the programs that are running when a crash occurs. With the programs that I use I do not have a problem with either 3HD or Lucid 5.2.8 crashing. Thanks.infrequent random crashing

clementine in three headed dog
...just an observation...when running clementine pet (music player) http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 75&t=68537 in three headed dog all keyboard input stops ...close clementine and keyboard input returns...weird
thanx sheepysheepy wrote:It's a bug. To fix it, remove all the keyboard commands in Clementine. They conflict with the regular keyboard input.

WMV files crash SeaMonkey
I have a friend who emails me .wmv files. If I try to open the files in SeaMonkey mail, SeaMonkey crashes. I get the message window apologising for Seamonkey crashing and a large, blank, grey square, which is all that Gnome-MPlayer can show.
If I save the file, instead of trying to open it in SeaMonkey mail, I can click on it in Rox and the file plays without any issues.

Thanks for your continued work, Larry. I have just downloaded the latest 3HD iso and it works perfectly. I had forgotten just how good it is.

User-visible changes will appear in 'NEWS' as usual. (And technical changes, in commit messages.)
