A better sound? (dog_drink.wav)
This may be better - the eating one wasn't as clear.

noise with aplay on selfmade sounds with audacity
Ive made the experience that to aplay the format of the .au or .wav file is very important. I've also tried making sounds with Audacity. I stick to the .au container and export it as a MONO, 8000Hz (project Frequency), 8-bit mu-law file.
The mu-law (or "U-Law" in Audacity) bit seems to be the important bit. If I save it as Signed-8-bit PCM it also just makes noise when played with aplay. But saving it as .au with U-Law in Audacity 2.0.0 does the trick.
Enjoy
Edit: I attached one of my own sounds, the howling puppy, for my shutdown sound.

trash sound script(s) where to find?
Now I'd like to edit the trash sounds myself, but I'm stuck:
Where can I find the script(s) that play 2barks.au when I put something in the trash and when I empty the trash?
where is the script that controls the trash icons?
Hope someone can help

Tiny bit off topic, but related.. Rox (or any) "Delete" needs a reminder (text or pop up) to refer you to use Trash. Especially for those coming from M$ and used to the Recycle Bin. Took me a bit to realize when I was a green noob that my Puppy took my command very literally. (Sorry to jack this. )
I do get a kick out of adding sound! Thanks! (adds to to-do list ) Edit: Done... both sounds are awesome!! But I just want to pick up my laptop and hug it when I shutdown now..

Puppy. You can choose to use it well. 8) Or well, choose not to use it. (I'm feelin' quite spiffy for thinking of that)
Of course there's always <mumble> RTFM  RTFM  RTFM  Funny I say that @ work and play equally often.

Very good point charbaby, I'm going to have to put a "warning" on the desktop for the first time my bro starts his machine. I'm setting it up for him and he is even more a noob to Puppy/Linux than I am...charbaby66 wrote:... Rox (or any) "Delete" needs a reminder (text or pop up) to refer you to use Trash...

Good luck, have fun, don't worry if either of you "break" something. You can re-install in 30 minutes or less, and it's free. 2 mins. if you have a save-file .bak'ed up somewhere.

This is Linux not Windows.
You must be smarter than the equipment you are operating.
In Rox file manager
Right click on an item.
Choose trash or choose delete.
Trash sends the item to the trash.
Delete does just that,

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Thank you, bigpup. Actually, the point wasn't how to use it nor my intelligence vs. the machine's, but your instructions may be as helpful as my advice was intended to be to a new Puppy user. Since this *is* Linux not Windows, it does happen that many M$ users are nonplussed to discover that difference. Many Windows programs do have a Linux counterpart that works in a similar way, but Delete is not Recycle Bin. As Trash looks very similar to it, newbs expect that a file they Delete would be found there, not gone. I hope we have saved someone from finding this out the hard way. It can be a very painful lesson otherwise.bigpup wrote:This is Linux not Windows.

I'm done derailing the topic now. My apologies.
