A rail-road transit system spanning the whole of Europe would have lead to a monopoly, most likely. So what's the sense in that?

Binutils-2.21.1 won't build properly.

Following this walkthrough, I currently try to build Binutils-2.21.1 (I got everything compiled up to chapter 5.10, but had to realize that everything after that would fail compiling due to Binutils). http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/chapter05/binutils-pass1.html Whenever I try to mak...

Any tools to help me create an unorthodox dock experience?

I'm currently working on my own Linux distro and could need some help creating a unique desktop experience. Are there any tools or walkthroughs concerning docks out there (especially those rather unorthodoxly shaped)? In my young life, I've pretty much programmed everything but desktop widgets, so a...

Thanks guys. I used scale2x (for DOS, since I couldn't find a valid PET for scale2x) and it came out fantastic. The calendar has already arrived some time ago. Haven't had the time to hang it up yet, but what I have seen looks really good. The resolution of the print is more than decent, the colours...

Skype for Puppy Linux not launching

Hi there. I have been trying to launch this program for quite some time now, without any success. Whenever I try to launch Skype from the menu bar, nothing will happen. I had the exactly same thing with Dosbox, before I installed an additional amount of packages. Do I need to do the same with Skype?...

Looking for the best upscaling method (MTPaint)

I am in the need of upscaling several pictures from 1920x1080 to something 3k-ish (for a 6'50" x 1'60" panorama gaming calendar).

What is the best upscaling algorithm to do this (in MTPaint)? Or would another tool (like GIMP) give me superior results?

Thanks. Did it slightly different. My method worked as well, though. Booted from CD. Mounted the partition the file resides on. Accessed the pupsave directly and simply moved all the files from the pupsave to my regularly mounted SDA1 partition. Abiword really is broken, though. First that horrible ...

Any way of recovering a broken pup save file?

Thanks to Abiword Processor and it's atrocious, misconfigured, totally broken PDF converter, I am now stuck with nothing but the pfix=ram option and my Windows Vista installation. The moment I tried to write a PDF file to the My-documents folder, the memory stats counted down to 0 MB, after which I ...

The system became kind of unresponsive (though that's probably just the router or some of the websites being unresponsive) and I lost 2M over the last two days, even though I did not save (not directly, at least) anything to the user file. Those 2M are probably just temporaries or some configs (had ...

Firefox VS Seamonkey. Which one is securer?

I was wondering. Which (if any) of the above mentioned browsers is securer? I know both are based on the same Kernel (albeit different versions), but while I like Seamonkey more (easier to manage the flow of incoming cookies and Javascript) I am worried that there might be some remote holes the rece...

Thanks.

Figured it out now.

I was always looking into usr/bin/X11/Xorg.
Never realized there really was a /etc.

Nothing to see here. Just an Amiga OS fanboy figuring out the Unix file system.

How to edit Xorg.conf?

My touchpad is behaving rather strangely, so that I see myself in the need to deactivate it. However, I seem to lack the proper tool. I know gedit supports the (dot)conf format. However, gedit seems to be limited to the Gnome environment. Is there anything like gedit working with the (dot)conf format?

I am still running Puppy 4.31.

Should I shoot myself in the head or will cyanide suffice?

I am worried that Communist regimes might use my brain to browse for information concerning the national safety, Coca Cola and the latest porn, so the full destruction is of utter importance.

Thank you so much.

That one worked like a charm. Pristine print quality, as well.

Quite interesting to see so many solutions to one problem, btw. I found at least 4 different ways of setting up printing devices in less than a day.

Lexmark Z515 not working

Hi there. The new one here :) First of all, I would like to say that Puppy Linux really is a great little OS. Pretty much the fastest and cleanest experience I have ever had. My only issue is with CUPS. After spending a hell of a time finding the proper driver, I set everything up (un-rpmed the whol...
