On the browser front, can anyone recommend a lightweight browser that is NOT Dillo and has most of the features of, eg, Chrome? I don't fancy running actual Chrome/ium on this craptop! Flash and the ability to display modern webpages in modern ways is a requirement. "Looks good" is a nice...

. I do not intend to use Dillo any time soon. (I'd consider giving it a second chance if the devs added support for flash and other, similarly modern things.) I will look at other browsers that are fairly full-featured but lightweight (QtWeb comes to mind), but Dillo is one browser that I will not ...

I used this method and puppy runs fine on my machine which only has 64meg of ram.

for low spec machines, try puppy 2.16 - it works great on my old compaq laptop with only 64 MB of ram. just don't expect to use the latest firefox, chrome,..etc. you need to stick to lightweight applications.

I have a xircom 10/100 in a Compaq presario 1685 laptop - Using puppy 2.16.1, run the network wizard - it *should* autodetect, if not select the tulip module at the bottom of the list during the network wizard. Then Auto DCHP.

hope this help, as it works fine on my system

I also would like to know the steps you used. I have a Compaq laptop with 192 megs of ram that I installed Puppy lupu 520 on to be able to use a specific linux application. I would have liked to use an earlier version of Puppy, but the support files for the application were too early. I would have ...

Installation was quite simple:- - Booted from the live CD - partitioned the HDD with a 64meg swapfile and the remaining space to ext2 - installed NetSurf browser from a pet/pup file - upgraded Dillo from a pet/pup file - used the network wizard to enable the PCMIA ethernet card - installed Dosbox 0....

Re: Which Puppy?

[ You should indicate the hardware and processor you have, when asking for puppy recommendations. introducing myself

Hi everyone. My name is Matt - I'm a new linux user. I decided on puppy as I have an old Compac presario 1685 laptop with 64 meg of RAM that I wanted to make use of. Puppy 2.16 works great on it. The ethernet card modem was a breeze to set up. I have upgraded Dillo and installed the NetSurf browser ...
